Casual Sports Coach

Various hours as required

£11.88 per hour


You will be part of the Action Van sports outreach team that provides exciting and engaging activities to children and young people across Dorset. We are looking for coaches and sports leaders who, like us, want young people to be active and healthy and to enjoy taking part in sport.

We are a team of 20 or more coaches, sports leaders and fitness instructors that all want to keep young people playing and enjoying sport. We visit around eight schools a week (mostly in the afternoons) and also some youth groups in the evenings and various one off events throughout the year.

What you will be doing 

The role of the Action Van Sports Coach involves travelling to schools, youth clubs and /or other events to provide sports or activity sessions. Working with one or more colleagues the Sports Coach will plan, set up, run and evaluate the session. The team will coach a range of people (mostly children) in different settings and will have the opportunity to work with others and learn from them as well as share your own knowledge. The Sports Coach will also be required to support other coaches with their delivery of sessions and lead and supervise general ball and sports sessions.

The hours of work are various but the candidate will be required to work afternoons during term time, some evenings, weekends and school holidays.

The Action van is one of the services provided by the Sports Development Unit and (from time to time) there may be opportunities to be involved with other projects that this department manages.

Training is organised where good ideas and practice is shared more formally. There is other training organised to attend, such as; safeguarding and first aid. 

About you  

The successful candidate will have a level 1 sports or multi-sport qualification and have experience of delivering sports sessions to groups of young people. They will need to have good communication skills and be able to give examples of working in a team. They must have some knowledge of health and safety in a sports environment and when working with young children. They will have a passion for sport and share our aim to make sport an enjoyable experience for all and encourage life-long participation.
