The Governors of Cheselbourne Village School are delighted to offer the opportunity

for an enthusiastic, innovative individual to lead our unique and charming school as

Headteacher.

We are a small, rural, maintained first school nestled in the charming village of

Cheselbourne, which lies to the North-East of the historic town of Dorchester. We

currently have 42 children on roll covering two classes as well as a new and growing

pre-school. The flexibility of small, mixed-age classes allows for a truly individualised,

and targeted style of teaching. We are lucky to boast a small but highly dedicated and

skilled team of staff and we are looking to appoint someone to motivate and support

them with the same level of commitment and charisma.

Cheselbourne Village School nurtures, challenges and respects students and staff alike

in an enriching and inspirational environment with the aim of supporting pupils to

achieve their full potential. The school has many links with other local schools as part

of the Dorchester Area Schools Partnership as well as the Learning First Alliance; a

small collection of schools working supportively to promote best practice.

The School was judged 'Good' at the last Ofsted review in 2017. The new post holder

will be expected to build on that judgement and drive progress throughout the school,

building on existing strengths. The successful applicant will work creatively and

strategically with the governing body and wider school community in order to

increase pupil numbers, ensuring the stability and longevity of the school.

We are looking for a person who has:

  • proven leadership skills with the ability to share their vision and inspire creative

thinking, promoting moderation and reflective practice

  • excellent communication skills and an eagerness to strengthen links in the local

community as well as with other schools

  • the flexibility to adapt to an ever-changing educational world and an open minded approach to new ideas that will benefit the pupils

  • passion, energy and enthusiasm

ln return, we can offer:

  • a friendly, supportive and welcoming school with children who enjoy learning

and parents who are eager to contribute to the success of the school as a

whole

  • a motivated and supportive governing body who are dedicated to the success

of the school

  • The chance to join an energetic, friendly and devoted team of staff

  • our commitment to your continued professional development

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and

young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service

check and Children's Barring List check in line with the Government safer recruitment

guidelines.

The School values the diversity of its workforce and welcomes applications from all

sectors of the community.

Further information and an application form and information pack can be obtained

from Mrs Sandy White (telephone number 01258 837306 or e-mail office@cheselbourne.dorset.sch.uk) who will also be pleased to arrange appointments for candidates wishing to visit the school.
