Headteacher - Cranborne Middle School
Salary details: £62426 - £71590
Required: 1 September 2020
The Governors are seeking to appoint an inspirational leader to our successful 9-13 Middle School Academy.
This position has become vacant due to the recent sad death of our previous Head Teacher. There is currently an Acting Headteacher in post while a new headteacher is recruited.
Dorchester Middle School is located in the attractive town of Dorchester, which is situated some 8 miles from the Jurassic Coast in the glorious countryside of West Dorset. It is a Middle School deemed Secondary with pupils from Dorchester and some of its surrounding villages and benefits from a fully comprehensive intake. Most of our pupils feed into the very successful Thomas Hardye School in Year 9, which is on an adjacent site.
It is part of the successful Dorchester Area Schools Partnership of local First, Middle and Upper schools who share resources, planning and expertise in order to enhance continuity across all stages of the childrens’ education.
The school converted to a Single Academy Trust in June 2012 and is considering becoming a member of a local MAT, while retaining its own Headteacher, budget and ethos.
Dorchester Middle School was categorised as "Good" in its Ofsted Inspections in May 2014 and November 2018. However, it was judged as "Requires Improvement" in May 2019 and is working hard to return to a Good school in the next 18 months and to fully realise the potential the school possesses.
This school of 595 pupils has very good accommodation, playing fields and grounds. Within the school there is also a Physical Disability base, which enables a high degree of inclusivity across the school, recognised by Ofsted as a particular strength.
The successful candidate will have a clear, strategic vision for the school, displaying energetic leadership and highly developed interpersonal skills, complemented by an ability to motivate and inspire pupils, staff, parents and the wider community. Such skills will enable Dorchester Middle School to build on its considerable strengths in order to deliver a first class education for all pupils.
