There has never been a more exciting time to join Children’s Services in Dorset.

We’ve changed the way we do things and our new model has radically changed the service which is driving real improvements to children’s social care, early intervention, prevention and governance at all levels.

By working to a set of common values, we believe that our people can make a positive difference to the organisation and the communities we serve.

The transformation journey for Children’s Services is ambitious, but already starting to show positive results, and will need to be driven to enable continued improvement to ensure that outcomes for our children, young people, and families continue to improve.

Our new model brings together many services and support for children and families into six integrated locality teams across Dorset, supported by a central team of specialist services.

Our priorities to improve the outcomes for children and young people in Dorset are:

  • Best Start in Life
  • Young and Thriving
  • Good Care Provision
  • The Best Education for All
  • Delivering Locally
  • Best Place to Live

To lead us on our journey, we are looking to recruit a first-class individual with the right experience, knowledge, and dedication to help us improve the lives of children, young people, and families in Dorset.

You will be an experienced senior leader and social work professional, with a track record of improving outcomes for children, young people, and families as a compelling strategic lead with a strong grip on operational services and finances. You will have the vision, drive and resilience to continue the transformation journey and build on the successes of the last few months, engaging with our partners to improve the outcomes for children, young people, and families within Dorset. You will be flexible and adaptable to changing situations and keen to develop an ambitious and forward-thinking culture.

This post involves working with children or vulnerable adults and/or having access to significant information about them and will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check. Please refer to our policy on the employment of ex-offenders for further information.

This vacancy is being advertising internally in the first instance to employees of Dorset Council and agency or casual workers currently engaged by Dorset Council. Where it is not possible to appoint from the existing workforce, the vacancy may subsequently be released to external candidates.

Please note that employees working within a school are not considered as internal applicants as there are no reciprocal arrangements between schools and Dorset Council for redeployment. Expressions of interest including your CV and a maximum 500 word personal statement outlining how you meet the requirements of the role to Matt Prosser, Chief Executive by midnight on Sunday, 29 November 2020.
