This is an exciting time to being joining the Dorset Council’s Partnership, with a busy application agenda and upcoming Local Government Reorganisation creating a range of opportunities for professional growth and development.
You will be a senior planner looking for a new challenge and an opportunity to develop your leadership and management skills, or an experienced planner looking for the next step in your career.
You will have development management experience in both rural and urban development, dealing with elected members and stakeholders, and negotiating with applicants to ensure good development outcomes which allow for delivery.
Ideally you will have some experience in mentoring, leading and/or managing staff, but if not you will have a willingness to develop in this area.
What you will own and how you will grow:
The Dorset Councils’ Partnership area covers 3 District Council areas (North Dorset, West Dorset and Weymouth and Portland) and you will have the opportunity to deal with a range of planning and related applications across these areas, on behalf of the Partnership.
We are able to offer a truly diverse planning workload – urban redevelopment, green field growth, AONB and Coastal protection and sensitive developments. We have a number of opportunities on offer falling into two role types:
- Senior Planner covering a geographical area, dealing with minor and medium scale applications, and leading and managing a small group of planners, developing your leadership and management skills.
- Senior Planner in the major applications team, dealing with the most significant applications across the Council’s partnership area.
For our fixed term opportunities, those working towards RTPI membership will be considered.
