Countryside Worker

Permanent - Full time 37 hours per week

Dorset Countryside

We are looking for enthusiastic well motivated person to work has part of the Greenspace Team in the Weymouth area. The role will involve working with a Senior Countryside Worker and leading a team when required. Managing the grass verges / green space and rights for way network in the Weymouth area.

What you will be doing

The successful applicant will working in a team which is primarily responsible for making the verges and green spaces more ecologically diverse, by implementing the award winning cut and collect regime. Being trained to use a range of equipment to help to keep all Dorset Council verges and green spaces maintained to a high standard

About you

  • A BTEC or equivalent in countryside skills i.e. National Certificate, National Diploma or minimum of level 2 in Environmental Conservation
  • First Aid At Work
  • NPTC or Lantra qualification in brush cutting, pesticide use, chainsaw use.
  • Significant working knowledge of the natural environment and relevant countryside issues
  • significant understanding of the application of heath and safety and /or other regulations within areas of responsibility
  • Relevant practical experience with countryside / rights of way management organisation
  • Experience in assessing and eliminating / minimising risk.
  • Some experience of working with people in difficult and challenging circumstances.
  • Able to work within a team environment
  • Able to follow procedures
  • to be able to carryout vegetation clearance using machinery and hand tools
  • Effective communication shills i.e. an ability to communicate with members of the public, land owners, farmers, local community groups, volunteers, partners.
  • Able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post
  • To be well motivated, enthusiastic and adaptable
  • To be able to work outside in all weathers
  • Ability to deal with potential situations of conflict
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on their own using their own initiative

Hold a Full UK driving licence

Have a licence to tow a trailer or be willing to undertake a course to tow a trailer, as this is an essential part of the role
