Housing Solutions Officer (Prevention)

Fixed term to January 2020

Salary: £23,866 – £26,470 p.a

Hours: 37 hours per week

Internal only - for employees of Dorset Councils Partnership, Dorset County Council, Christchurch and East Dorset Councils and Purbeck District Council

Plus local Government Pension Scheme

 

We are looking for applicants to help us implement the new homelessness legislation introduced earlier in 2018 that increases requirements on us to prevent homelessness. Working with a challenging caseload you will help and assist clients faced with homeless to resolve their situations.

We have a great team of people for you to work with and are looking for the right applicants to join our colleagues already working to prevent and assist homeless clients.

Do you have experience working with people in difficult circumstances?  

We need applicants who can be sensitive to difficult situations whilst having the ability to negotiate and investigate individual client circumstances. There will be occasions when you may need to provide challenging advice to clients in stressful circumstances.

Are you able to learn new skills?

Our successful applicants will need to demonstrate their ability to learn new skills and legislation and work with clients with complex needs and issues.

Applicants will need to be computer literate, and have a flexible, organised approach to their work to cope with a challenging and varied case load.

Do you develop positive and professional relationships?

We need people who can work in partnership with other agencies to assist and support our clients. The successful applicants will need to maintain and develop professional relationships with colleagues, landlords and a wide range of agencies. 

Are you customer focused with good communication skills?

We need applicants who can adapt their communication style to provide specialist advice with a wide range of people and organisations. Our successful candidates will be able to communicate well verbally and in writing.

This post will work from the Civic Offices in Christchurch and will work as required at the Council Offices in Wimborne and at other local surgeries in the East Dorset area. In addition, there will be occasions when clients will need to be visited at their homes. The ability to travel around the district and to work from both Wimborne and the Civic Offices is a requirement of the post. The ability and willingness to participate in the out of hour’s service rota which operates outside office hours is essential.
