The Highway Improvements Team in the Assets and Infrastructure Service at Dorset Council are preparing to deliver an extensive programme of sustainable transport schemes in east Dorset. The schemes are supported by a £79 million funding package as part of the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF), recently awarded to Dorset and BCP Council's. As an Engineer in the Dorset TCF project team you will be involved in the design and construction supervision of new cycleway, footway and bus priority schemes.

What you will be doing

Based in Dorchester, close to the Heritage Coast, this exciting role gives the opportunity to work on a significant package of new sustainable transport schemes, while building on your existing highway design capabilities, Auto CAD skills and contract supervision experience. There will be the potential opportunity for a mix of home and office working while working in a small team of engineers dedicated to the design a delivery of a range of projects to a challenging programme and budget. The role can also provide opportunities to undertake site supervision and work in collaboration with our partners and specialists from other disciplines.

About you

You will be educated to at least HND/HNC standard in civil engineering or a related subject and have current knowledge of highway design and construction standards, procedures and health and safety requirements. Good AutoCAD skills are very important and a working knowledge of Civils 3D will be an advantage, plus any specific experience of current cycleway design standards. For appointment to the higher salary levels in this post you will need to demonstrate significant post qualification highway design experience together with strong communication and report writing skills.
