Engineer (Bridges and Highways Structure)

Full time 37 hours per week - Permanent

£25,481 - £37,890

County Hall, Dorchester

We are looking to recruit an engineer who is keen to develop their interest in Bridges and Highway Structures. You will be part of a team that maintains, refurbishes and occasionally replaces structures within Dorset Council’s stock of highway bridges, culverts and retaining walls. You will be given the opportunity and encouraged to obtain professional engineering qualifications through training, experience from the projects assigned to you and mentored by experienced team members.

This post would be most suitable for a recently graduated engineer with a good understanding of structural analysis.

What you will be doing

The main responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Manage the Council's bridge, tunnel, safety fence and highway retaining wall stock
  • Develop and maintain a programme of regular bridge inspection, monitoring and assessment
  • Prioritise and deliver a routine and preventative maintenance and strengthening works programme to asset management principles

Candidates should be comfortable both working as part of a team and indivdually.

Candidates should also be comfortable working in water or from a boat, climbing ladders and working at heights.
