2x Community Engagement Project Officers

Permanent - Full time 37 hours

£27,905 - £32,029

County Hall, Dorchester

We are recruiting to two vacancies in the Communication & Engagement team for Community Engagement Project Officers.

We are seeking candidates with excellent interpersonal skills who are able to build strong working relationships with partners from a wide range of organisations.

It's an exciting time at Dorset Council as we build on innovative ways of working with voluntary and community organisations through COVID19 to make a real difference to the lives of Dorset residents.

The team supports all council services so work is very varied and often high profile.

What you will be doing

The roles involve:

  • building effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including the voluntary & community sector, town & parish councils, and public sector partners
  • planning, delivering and advising on public consultation and engagement activities
  • analysing and reporting on results of these activities
  • delivering projects with the voluntary and community sector to achieve Dorset Council objectives, which may include managing grant funding
  • supervision of colleagues.

About you

We are seeking candidates with outstanding interpersonal skills: the ability to listen, empathise, identify mutual objectives and build strong working relationships to achieve goals.

The role requires political awareness, understanding of local government and the voluntary & community sector, and a desire to improve the lives of Dorset residents.

You need excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - and a flexible, 'can do' attitude. We're seeking candidates who can identify opportunities, who are innovative and creative, and are willing to try new ways of doing things.

Experience of planning and running engagement projects is desirable. You will be a strong project manager, able to deliver projects on budget and within deadlines. You are happy to work on your own initiative and as part of a team. Above all, you are a 'people person' - you enjoy building relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds and working together to achieve joint objectives.

Working at Dorset Council

This is a unique opportunity to join a brand new council in Dorset – home to the spectacular Jurassic Coast and thriving market towns and villages with a strong sense of community and identity.

On 1 April 2019, five district and borough councils and the county council were replaced by the new Dorset Council which will deliver more efficient, accessible and modern public services.

You will have the opportunity to build your career in a modern, flexible and inclusive organisation, and this is an exciting time to join – at the start of our journey together.
