This position is fixed term until 31st December 2020.

Parkstone Connect is a large, friendly and very busy day centre in Poole. Care Assistants help adults who have disabilities take part in meaningful leisure and learning activities. Many of the people we work with have very high support needs. Care Assistants provide intimate personal care as part of their job, they also key work some clients and help with the running of the centre. All staff are encouraged to develop their interests and skills in their role and to undertake a wide range of duties.

As an Apprentice you will be given lots of support and guidance as well as the formal training to quickly become one of our team and to contribute to helping everyone 'have a good day'.

This is a rare chance to become a professional care worker. You will work with adults who have a very wide range of support needs. You will develop and practice a wide range of skills and ways of working to give you a real chance to develop a career.

Skills required

  • A good standard of education.
  • You will be able to talk to new people and make friendly working relationships.
  • It would be desirable if a candidate had some care experience

Personal qualities

This is the most important area.

  • You should be able to think about other people, you need to be able to work with new people and cope with working in a large centre.
  • You must be trustworthy, friendly and positive.
  • We will find this out from your application form and, if we decide to invite you to spend some time with us, in conversations with you.

Qualifications required

It would be desirable if you had Level 4/Grade C qualifications in English and Maths, but this is not essential.

Other important information

This is a really great opportunity to get a Level two qualification with regular off-site training and we are looking for people who are positive they will be able to complete a two-year apprentice with us. Many of our previous trainees have gone onto more senior roles afterwards and two are now with us in full time care jobs!

Things to consider

In addition to the need to undertake the college training, you will need to be able to do other things. You will need to be able get into good work habits quickly, for instance being punctual, with reliable attendance, and above all with the motivation to make the most of the opportunity to learn from your skilled and friendly colleagues

  1. Why do you want to work in a Day Centre for adults instead of other places where you could be a carer?
  2. What do you think are two or three things you would find difficult in completing your apprenticeship and what can we do (you and us) to overcome them?

Answers to the above questions are required in your application.

Other things you might find helpful:

  • As you will be working with vulnerable adults and/or have access to significant information about them if you are successful you will be required to undergo a DBS check.  We will pay for this.
  • When the closing date has passed you will not be able to see the job description and person specification so you may wish to download a copy.
  • We can also accept applications via cv or application form.  Please go to the Tricuro website for contact details for the service you are interested in, or email enquiries@tricuro.co.uk
